The Fort Polk-KNF Oversight Committee met four times during fiscal year (FY) 2011. The Oversight Committee approved 7 new SEMP metrics and performance targets under Objective 4-2, Quality of Life for Installation Neighbors – Noise, Wildfires and Road Conditions. The new measures track the following:

• Operation of noise monitors and public complaints related to military noise;
• Marking of private property boundary lines in the Limited Use Area of the Vernon Unit, Kisatchie National Forest (KNF);
• The number of days per year in which the potential for wildfires on For Polk, Peason Ridge and the Vernon Unit are categorized as Green, Amber, Red or Black, based on weather and fuel conditions; and
• The number of wildfires caused by military training and the resulting acres burned on Fort Polk, Peason Ridge and the Vernon Unit during days categorized as Green, Amber, Red and Black.

Progress made in establishing metrics under the SEMP can be viewed in the approval history chart. The chart displays the number of SEMP metrics, targets, and associated monitoring and reporting requirements approved by the Oversight Committee each year, from inception in 2005 through anticipated full implementation in 2013-2014.

The FY 2011 Monitoring and Evaluation Status Summary Table identifies the SEMP objectives for which monitoring and evaluation protocols were implemented as of the end of FY 2011, along with the future years in which monitoring and evaluation for remaining the objectives is expected to begin. As of the end of FY 2011, monitoring and evaluation was underway for 9 of 14 objectives, and development of metrics and performance targets had begun for an additional 4 objectives.
